I'll have you know that I'll be consulting YOUR list when it comes time to spend my (meager) tax return. My word verification is 'eywast'. That's what Laserdiscs were for...Sure, why not? That's what Laserdiscs were for years and years before DVD hopped along: A specialty format. I feel like with all the new burn on demand stuff from different studios, that's kind of what's happening to DVD. I find a lot of the absolutism among film and home video enthusiasts humorous. Film is obsolete!!! (there are more types of Super 8 film stock now than when the format was supposedly at its peak) DVD's are going the way of the Laserdisc! (you can still buy Laserdiscs of new movies in Chinatown) Blu-ray isn't going to last! (Blu-rays sell just as well as DVD's did during third year of DVD manufacturing) Streaming video is the future! No-one will have physical media! It makes sense! It's economical! Blah, blah, blah. Who said cinephilia was supposed to be economical? I'll keep my VHS, DVD and BD collection, thank you very much. YOU can stare at an iPod. Sorry to go off on a rant. Simply put, you and I agree.

Also, I forgot to add the Vampyr Criterion. Truly a revelation! Let's also not forget the Windtalkers 3-Disc directors cut!Jakehttp://extraordinaryillusions.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-464853961321805907.post-9200233427045070622009-12-09T23:11:02.413-06:002009-12-09T23:11:02.413-06:00I was hoping you'd stop by Jake - I had though...I was hoping you'd stop by Jake - I had thought about expanding my list to include things that you own and that we've watched together. Yes, your list is mighty nice, and speaks even more towards the remarkable breadth of this crazy format.
I'm also anxious as to where home video is going to end up, although not exactly in a good way. It seems like the more resolution we get, the smaller the screens become. Sorry, but I refuse to believe that watching anything on an I Pod can be conducive to our film culture. At the very least, I suspect there will always be some kind of format that allows us to hold a tangible object, not just streaming files of information out there in the ether. They might be for hard core collector types only, but that's the way we like it, right?Danimalnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-464853961321805907.post-73919734055287308122009-12-08T18:41:27.756-06:002009-12-08T18:41:27.756-06:00I'm pretty anxious to see where home video goe...I'm pretty anxious to see where home video goes in the next decade.
