I've only seen it once, and remember liking it quite a bit, despite some flaws. I also recall the heated debate that sprung up around the film, something along the lines of whether or not Campion was fetishizing violence against women or something. I've still got an old issue of Film Comment with Amy Taubin's review of the film, might have to dig that up.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-464853961321805907.post-58509398022507512652009-01-07T19:56:00.000-06:002009-01-07T19:56:00.000-06:00Wise words. I just don't understand how people can just keep writing the same thing about the same movie over and over again.

Also, the new Jane Campion flick, Bright Star, is supposed to come out this year. I doubt it'll play in Chicago, but I'm still happy she's releasing new material. I recently re-watched In the Cut after not having watched it for 4+ years and appreciated it much more than I did as a teen.

Thank you for writing about this, Dan. I'm sorry I don't comment very often (I don't usually know what to write), but I love reading your work.Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05934737808011873938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-464853961321805907.post-71922895527629833072009-01-04T23:39:00.000-06:002009-01-04T23:39:00.000-06:00thanks so much for stopping by my sight and engagi...thanks so much for stopping by my sight and engaging in informed, intelligent debate. This is what I love about the internet, strangers coming together and the free exchange of ideas. Oh, wait, you're just a sarcastic douche bag, aren't you? I was unable to read much of what is own your own site, as English is, in fact, my first (and only) language, and it is a shame I won't be able to get your take on such integral contributions to the art of film as Flawless, 21, The Mummy 3, Meet Dave, Over Her Dead Body, and Hancock (but I must admit my love for Hellboy II). You of all people might benefit the most from my modest list, although your refusal to "take my writing seriously", admitted grammatical and spelling flaws aside, seems to stem more from your desire to watch whatever crap Hollywood spews forth than from any shortcomings on my part. Feel free to stop by again if you want to have, you know, an actual conversation. Otherwise, please spend your valuable time elsewhere.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-464853961321805907.post-66989363832476689872009-01-02T12:09:00.000-06:002009-01-02T12:09:00.000-06:00It would be easier to take your writings seriously...It would be easier to take your writings seriously if they weren't riddled with spelling howlers.
